Shanghai Zhujiajiao Watercolor Biennial Exhibition New Website

Since I have received their email informing that my painting was selected for the exhibition I have been waiting for a list of the exhibitors (or rather my name to be honest!) to appear in the official website but it was not .Thankfuly very recently they have opened a new one.I yesterday inquiried about the lack of the list in the new site and Mr.Xidan Chen ,the brain behind this huge event and master watercolor artist ,kindly responded today with a reply that they have put a link in the website today.

Same Subject Matter two different Approaches

I love everything mechanicaly moves,trains,planes,ships etc.I wanted to paint an oil tanker passing thru the Bosphorus.When it was finished I wasn't satisfied ;it wasn't me,too controlled,too tight so very quickly I did another one at the back of the first one and that I like better.

The second one is about 30x40cm.

Dear Nusret, We are pleased to inform you that your painting 'Evening Work' has been selected for 2010 Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolour Biennial Exhibition. Your painting will be on display in Quanhua Watercolour Art Gallery form 15th April to 31st October... 2010.The opening ceremony is on 15th April, you are welcome to join us for celebration. We will send you a book with all works on show at the 2010 Biennial. At the end of the exhibition, if your painting is not sold, it will be returned to you within 2 months. Some of you may know the story;This is in fact a copy I did after I received the news that the original which was not in my possession ,passed the initial selection.They kindly accepted the copy in for the final judging.Here is the original which I posted the couple of years ago in the gallery with the name Morning Work.I changed the name to Evening Work because what he is doing is done after returning from fishing ,that is ,in the evening time.

Both 20x14 inches.Suddenly decided and quickly executed, done on back sides of older paintings.

I'm trying to keep my brushes wet but I'm not happy with the results,should try again with proper paper and with more pre planning.

Three Sketches

Instead of painting a loose kitten I did these today.

I dont know why I call these sketches,probably as an excuse for less than good works!

1/4 or smaller in size,done with turquoise blue,transparent orange+paynes gray on back of an unsuccessful work done for Shanghai Watercolor Biennale Exhibition(BTW,I earlier airmailed my entry and received a confirmation of receipt yesterday).

A Kitten Loosened Up!

This is an old painting from my tight days.Yesterday I tried to loosen it up softening hard edges and making diffusions,it is now as loose as it can be.

25x15cm ,I cannot remember the paper and paints I used.

A snow Scene

A recent study on 1/4 sheet Hahnemuehle Toscana 200gm .It was not pre planned so the tree was an after thought and put in the wrong place.Shouldn't have the red building behind it.

This is on gessoed Guarro 300 gm wc paper.My usual Schmincke paints.

New Year Shopping at Pera

Pera is the old name of today's Beyoglu district in Istanbul.It is a very lively shopping,art,entertainment and nightlife center.The Istiklal (independence) Avenue is a pedestrian street except the historic tram which is a very common subject matter for wc artists with its red color for many years.On gessoed Arches rough (pre used naturally!) 36x26cm,around 1/4 sheet size with Schmincke colors.

Variations on a Favourite Subject!

First is on Hahnemuehle Britannia 300gm half sheet,second is on same paper 1/4 sheet size,third is on gessoed rough wc paper.With usual Schmincke colors.

Hiker

Another small study on gessoed pre used rough wc paper.It is 1/4 sheet size.

Recent Works

Two interiors are based on Jane Minter's photo painted with some artistic licence.Both around 1/4 sheet size.The vertical one is on regular cardboard (ivory board?) painted on the glossy side.I like the different effects on this.

The boat scene is on gessoed pre used wc paper ,1/2 sheet size-56x38cm.

End of a Long Hiatus of Painting &Posting

As the title is self explanatory I'll not add anything else.I'm only posting couple of paintings done in recent weeks.

Chim Chim

No paintings today.This is about my long haired yellow cat Chim Chim.He was sitting on the table next to my monitor yesterday and I remembered how I took him home from street three years ago.He was in a terrible shape.The vet found a small chicken bone stuck in his mouth preventing him to eat and clean himself properly.

After three years of love and care he is still a spoilt big baby!

So this is my Chim Chim from the day before I brought him home ,three weeks later and three years later.
